New-Look Falcons

Air Force has made some changes to its football uniforms for the 2009 season. I haven’t seen them yet, but I got the details from Dan Siermine, who is in charge of equipment at the academy. It seems one benefit will be players’ numbers will be much easier to read. That’s great news for me way up in the press box.

Here are the changes:

Pants: No more silver pants at home. Air Force will wear white pants at home and on the road. There will be a blue lightning bolt outlined in black (about eight inches long) going down the sides of the pants. The bolt will match the bolt on the helmets.

Jerseys: The Falcons still will wear blue at home, but instead of having silver numbers outlined in white, they will have white numbers outlined in black. On the road, Air Force will wear white jerseys with blue numbers outlined in black (instead of silver outlined in blue).

I can kind of picture the changes, and I think the unis will look a bit cleaner and the numbers will be sharper. If I get photos, I’ll post them.

Sounds like a good change for the numbers, and I’ll reserve judgment until I see the final product—but I’m not so sure about the lightning bolt down the pants…..am I alone here?

Lightning bolts on the pants will make the team faster! :-)

    GO FALCONS!

I appreciate the number change but I don’t like switching black for silver. Silver is a school color black isn’t. We are fortunate to have great colors and should use them. Also I fear the bolts down the legs might look tacky, but I’ll reserve judgment for later. Go Falcons!

I agree that something had to be done about the numbers on the away jerseys. A silver outline on the away jereys would not really show up unless it was really thick. They used to have bolts on the pants and they looked fine. That being said, the simpler the uniform the better in my opinion. As long as its better than those awful uniforms from 2006.

I all, if you scroll down to page 132 on the 2008 media guide at the Air Force Academy football website, you can see a picture of Blaine Morgan with the long lightning bolt down the side of the football pants…..black and white picture but looks good!

Heck, I’m still upset they got rid of the silver lining on the helmet bolt.
