Lots of great football this weekend that should help make the bowl picture a bit clearer. Here’s CBSSports.com’s bowl projections. The predict a familiar spot and opponent for the Falcons.

Also, the Air Force basketball team gets back to work tomorrow night, a week after a 24-point home loss to Northern Colorado. My preview story and 3 Things to Watch will be available later tonight.

Speaking of hoops, Gazette columnist David Ramsey blogged about former Air Force coach Jeff Bzdelik’s progress at Colorado.

    Jake–
Forgive me if this has already been asked and answered, but when EXACTLY will Air Force know where they’re going?

Hasn’t been asked or answered. And, unfortunately, I don’t have a definitive answer. The potential problem is that BCS pairings won’t be announced until Dec. 6, and that affects TCU and the rest of the conference

However, if it is clear TCU will earn a bid to a BCS bowl (which it will be), the conference can “release” bowls to choose other teams (other than TCU). If that happens, I could see the bowls starting to hand out bids on Saturday or Sunday, after Utah and BYU play and determine which team is in second place.

It would make sense for the conference to do this. Because the NM Bowl is on Dec. 19. And the LV and Poinsettia Bowls also are before Christmas. So if the MWC waits until the BCS pairings are announced, they’re not leaving teams much time to rally fans and sell tickets.

I’ll be posting updates as soon as I hear anything.

There’s apparently also a chance that SMU would be the opponent for the Armed Forces Bowl. Hawaii wants June Jones to bring his team to the islands, but if that changes for some reason, it might be interesting to see the Falcons’ defense match up with June’s offense.
