It was too soon for Troy Calhoun to say whether any player will be unavailable for the first full-squad training camp practice on Aug. 2, but there is some lingering concern about the linebacker position.
Senior inside linebacker Ken Lamendola (knee), senior outside linebacker Patrick Hennessey (shoulder) and sophomore outside linebacker Alex Means (foot) missed spring practices with injuries. Lamendola seems to be questionable, at best, for the start of camp.
“We’ll see,” Calhoun said about Lamendola. “He’s doing everything he possibly can when it comes to treatment and rehab. He’s probably still a ways off, though.”
Linebacker is a position that concerns Calhoun, aside from the health situation. He mentioned linebacker and a completely revamped offensive line as two major priorities coming into camp. Linebacker has been a worry the entire offseason for Air Force, and it hasn’t subsided in Calhoun’s mind.
“That’s a position we need to have some guys emerge,” Calhoun said. “I’d say both inside and outside. It’s an area we need some guys to come to the forefront.”
