Jeff Reynolds’ Air Force team is a little thin because of injuries, so he had to adjust.
The team’s first five practices was shorter and more efficient, he said. The practices last week at the Olympic Training Center were mostly an hour-and-a-half, and the team has had a couple two-hour practices.
“In the past I’ve been a guy that has gone two-and-a-half,” Reynolds said. “We can’t do that.”
There have been a few players who have been strong in the early practices, he said. Michael Lyons, Evan Washington, Taylor Broekhuis and Todd Fletcher have been the stars of the first few days.
“Those four have stood out,” Reynolds said.
A couple of freshmen, 6-4 freshman guard Jamil Bailey and 6-6 forward Myles Jerrett, have also been a pleasant surprise, according to Reynolds.
Reynolds said the only sluggish practice was the second one Saturday, but the team bounced back well Sunday. He said there has been a good energy level, and players understand the systems well so practices have been fast.
“Overall our staff has been very pleased,” Reynolds said.
EDIT: Sorry, forgot to add this. The men’s basketball team canceled its “Midday Madness” this season due to scheduling issues, the school announced.
This is true about the ‘official’ Mid-Day Madness being cancelled….but the men’s team has practice on Saturday from 10:00-12:00 and it is open to the public. Following the practice, The Friends of Air Force Basketball will hold a General Membership meeting at 12:00 P.M. Look forward to seeing folks at practice and the meeting. Go Falcons
ps…Frank, did you attend the basketball ‘media challenge’ on Monday?
Canceling the midday madness is no big deal I guess. Why can’t we act like a DI program and have a midnite madness. Could cadets not get a waiver from assigned activities to support if we were serious about generating some excitement about the program? Hold it on a Friday night? This is just another example of a program that just can’t get it right. Another example, pulling parking passes from the Season Ticket Holder package without any notice.
We are off to another great start under Reynolds.
Parking passes are not the coach’s decision…..go talk to the AD. Note: Most/many of the major programs no longer have a mid-night madness, rather (if anything) they have it on a FridaySat afternoon or early evening…..however a ‘few’ do hold to tradition. Come out Saturday and see the Falcons practice.
So our answer is to conduct a practice – we can’t do better than that?
RJP, didn’t do the media challenge on Monday, was covering the football folks. I’ll keep working on my bench press and join em next year.
