Air Force isn’t going to turn into Michigan State or Pitt overnight, getting extra possessions by pounding opponents on the glass. But being dominated in the rebounding battle is tough to overcome game after game.
In its five games against Division I opponents, Air Force got one more rebound than Tennessee State and was out-rebounded in the other four games, sometimes by a large margin. On Saturday against North Carolina Central, which has a reasonable front line of 6-7 and 6-8, the Falcons got 41 rebounds to the Eagles’ 28.
Air Force allowed just eight offensive rebounds on 38 missed shots. The Falcons are thin up front, so they won’t have a big edge in rebounding very often, but it’s key for them to at least be competitive in that area.
“It’s a must, we have to do that,” Reynolds said. “We talk about winning the board game, and we won the board game.”
Four Falcons players had at least seven rebounds: Taylor Broekhuis, Evan Washington, Taylor Stewart and Derek Brooks.
“It’s a constant effort by our guys,” Reynolds said.
