Lyons third team all-conference, Brooks snubbed for sixth man

Air Force guard Michael Lyons was named to the All-Mountain West third team today as the conference announced its annual postseason awards. Tom Fow and Evan Washington got honorable mention.

The one award Air Force thought it was going to get was sixth man of the year. Derek Brooks has had a fantastic season off the bench for the Falcons, but Colorado State’s Pierce Hornung got the award. Hornung averaged 4.3 points and 5.4 rebounds for the Rams. Brooks averaged 9.7 points and 3.8 rebounds, and took many of Air Force’s biggest shots this season.

The Falcons cared enough about Brooks’ candidacy for the award that they made sure he would still be eligible for it if he started on Senior Night last week (Brooks started and was eligible for the award).

“There’s no doubt in our staff’s mind that Derek deserves the award,” Reynolds said when asked about Brooks’ candidacy this morning before the awards were announced. “Statistically, there’s no one even close.

“He has made big shots at big times, he has provided stability when he has come in, he has provided a spark on the offensive end when we needed a big basket and he provided big stops on the defensive end when we needed stops.”

First, congrats to Mike Lyons…more to come in next two years Jr-Sr seasons…..

Now…6th man voting is horrible…??AF Anti-Bias??….look at games and stats….tell me if Derek should have been the sixth man over CSU’s player…

    AF’s Brooks: 29gms/ 22mpg / 9.7ppg / 3.8 rpg / 1.4 asst / FG 93-194 48% / 3pt 41%

    CSU: Hornung 30gms/ 20mpg / 4.3ppg / 4.6rpg / 0.9 asst / FG 60-100 60% / 3pt 15%

Derek had twice the shots in one less game and still averaged 50% FG and 41% 3pts and twice the points per game as the CSU player plus better assists and close to the same rebounds…This is BALONEY!

    Good luck Falcons….BEAT UNLV

More fuel for the fire….I am realllllllly ticked off about this……………………………………….

    AF’s Brooks……… pts vs MWC teams Utah 9/10 CSU 10/11 TCU 10/18 Wyo 3/5 UNLV 4/12 SDSU 8/15 NM 8/17 BYU 7/7

    CSU’s Hornung…. pts vs MWC teams Utah 2/6 AF… 13/4 TCU 4/1 Wyo 2/10 UNLV 4/7 SDSU 2/4 NM 2/2 BYU 4/2

No brainer….’how’ did they mess this up? I feel bad for Derek!

This juat proves this league is corrupt, with its officiating leaning toward the top 4 teams in big games, and the now awards going to winning team members vs. losing team candidates. This MWC is the simply better known as the “Jimmy Hoffa” conference. Is it any wonder the mass exodus
