In the second half against Air Force, it seemed Utah’s plan was to throw the ball up to the rim and just have its forwards go get a rebound. The Falcons couldn’t do anything about the Utes’ size.
There are a lot of good young players on Air Force’s roster, but not many tall ones. Coach Andrea Williams will do her best to fix that in recruiting.
“We have a recruiting coordinator and a lot of people interested in serving their country,” Williams said. “We’re out there looking all across the country.”
Williams knows it won’t be easy to recruit a lot of big players to Air Force, but the Falcons run an uptempo style to work to their strengths.
Air Force made a lot of progress this season, and should continue to improve. The Falcons had just one senior this year, and will have just one senior next season too.
“We’re excited to get working, and we’re excited for the future,” point guard Megan Muniz said. “We got a lot of confidence through the season with all the time we got. We started peaking at the end, I’d say.”
The Falcons’ win in the first round Tuesday at the Mountain West Conference Tournament should help. Now that the younger players have experienced a win in the conference tournament, they can carry that experience forward with them.
“The future is bright,” Williams said. “You won’t have the deer in the headlights.”
