Last spring, Jeffrey Benson moved ahead of Michael Hester on the depth chart, claiming the No. 1 spot at center. Hester, who started at center in 2011, was back in the starting lineup by default as training camp opened up, because Benson is dealing with a knee injury.
Benson will miss two-to-four weeks with a sprained medial collateral knee ligament. He could still return in time to battle Hester for the starting center spot before the Falcons open up the season Sept. 3 against South Dakota. However, Hester was a full time starter last year and could be tough to beat out with a sizable head start in camp.
