Won’t be much to say here, since the main news is Ken Lamendola’s injury. Here’s what else happened today:
- The freshmen got a little taste of practice today, going through about one-third of practice before they had to go. Sideline observers were struck by the size of the group, a testament to the recruiting job the coaches did. I wanted to seek out fullback Tyrone Sauls (who was getting interest from Oregon before picking Air Force) and it didn’t take long – let’s just say he looked the part in his No. 40 jersey. Calhoun has said many freshmen will play, and as many as three might be in the competition at fullback.
- Before full contact begins (Air Force finally had on shells today under their jerseys after a couple days in shirts and shorts, and will get full pads on this week), the players who stand out most are receivers and cornerbacks. One receiver who has caught a good number of balls so far is Drew Coleman. Mikel Hunter, who played very well early last season, has also looked good. There will be chances for them to play behind starters Zack Kauth and Jonathan Warzeka.
