Sorry for the lack of a training camp report Friday – there just wasn’t a whole lot that happened because it was a very light workout. The big news was on guard Jordan Eason’s knee injury, which I wrote about here. Also of note was outside linebacker Alex Means working with the first-team base defense, a spot that Stephan Atrice had held for the first part of the week. That competition will remain fluid through the month, I’d figure.

If you read the blog you’ve been getting regular updates on the freshmen, but here’s a story I wrote for Gazette.com about the group. If everyone stays together and develops, Air Force could be really good in 2013 and 2014 when these guys are upperclassmen.

Here’s an update on Erik Soderberg. You never want to see an athlete struggle like he did last year, when his confidence shrunk as the season went on. He has kicked well in camp but the coaches are continuing to promote competition at that position before proclaiming the job is his.

Liked doing this story on David Baska. It’s rare you have a punter who is unanimously considered one of the  best athletes on his team. When I talked to strength and conditioning coach Matt McGettigan about him, the only other punter he could remember being around who such a good athlete was Craig Hentrich, a former Notre Dame punter who won a Super Bowl ring with the Packers in the mid-1990s.
