If the whole TCU thing doesn’t work out, maybe Patterson can come to Air Force

I’ve written many times before about TCU coach Gary Patterson and his respect for Air Force. Anytime I’ve talked to him at Mountain West media days or asked him something on the weekly coaches’ teleconference, he goes out of his way to praise Air Force and its staff.

I spent a while today exchanging some quotes with Stefan Stevenson, the fine TCU beat reporter with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram (TCU won’t let opposing media do phone interviews with its players during the week, so I had to get some TCU comments through Stefan), and he passed along a great quote from Patterson about Air Force coach Troy Calhoun. Nice praise for Calhoun from a coach coming off back-to-back BCS game appearances:

“If he needed an assistant coach on defense I’d work for him,” Patterson told the Star-Telegram. “I think he’s a hard-charger, he does the things he needs to do. He’s a great football coach, great motivator, and a great person.”
