Gardner’s injury could be a blow to the defense

September 11th, 2011, 9:50 am · 11 Comments · posted by

Nose guard Ryan Gardner is an unheralded player for the Falcons, but he was missed last year when he sat out for a few weeks with a groin injury. He plays a key role in the run defense, occupying blockers in the middle.

Gardner could miss some more time after suffering what appeared to be a right knee injury on TCU’s second touchdown. He was helped off the field and never returned. He stayed on the trainer’s table through the first half, then came out for the second half in street clothes and on crutches.

If Gardner misses significant time with the injury, junior Cody Miller could be next in line to start. The Falcons don’t have a lot of depth on the defensive line, and it will be stretched if Gardner misses some games.

I like sports and I will always support the games, but what I cannot support, actually I condemn, is the parade of F18′s for just show when there are hundreds, if not thousands of people in Colorado Springs alone that are losing their homes and vehicles; some have an empty fridge in their soon to be gone homes.
How does the Air Force justify this?
How much does one of these jets cost to operate including the ground support they require to operate?
It makes me sick to my stomach how governments make us promises and the turn around and rub things like this in our faces.

F-15s, John. The swabbies and jarheads fly the -18.
And I would bet that the flight hours those pilots got on the flyby were part of their regular budgeted proficiency training. No net cost to DoD’s budget.

    John,

You want to whine about waste. Contact your Congressman and complain about 2.7 trillion dollars of taxpayer money that went to the “too big to fail banks” (and another 14 Trillion dollars in interest free loans). The same banks that committed fraud when they gave you your last mortgage and then packaged it up into AAA bonds when they knew your neighbors couldn’t pay them off. Oh and by the way they also bet that those same mortgages that they represented as AAA would default.THAT’S WASTE!

Please don’t waste oxygen on something you know nothing about. The training requirements for pilots are outrageous (I guess that’s why we have the best in the world), this is just one of them. It wasn’t a joy ride. There was hours of preflight involved. Coordination, teamwork, stick practice, proficiency, and on and on.

Protecting the skys after 9/11 just doesn’t happen my friend. It takes lots of practice (including formation flying practice which is extremely complicated, technical and stressful…one mistake and you are a ball of fire).

What does this have to do with Gardner?

Odd this thread turned into a flyover criticism – but, I was planning on writing about flyovers, and discussing why AFA thinks it’s important and how they justify the cost. Keep an eye out, will happen this season.

    A blow to, “What defense?”

Any chance we can sneak in Ben Garland unnoticed?

Gardner is a great defensive player and competitor, he is also very very strong. It is the equivalent to losing wallet. Ther will be no shopping without ” G “. . Yes this is a definite blow to their defensive line.

    Air Force flies F-16′s, Navy FA-8′s (figher/attack)

Flyovers are tradition, if you have a problem with military waste$$, that has never been a well kept secret.

Here’s hoping Falcons have a few tricks left up their sleeves, especially for the Navy game back here in Annapolis.

Moved east from the Springs in ’06 largely due to shaky economy. Blessings and good luck to all of you out there and hope you fare well in the future.

Melissa–These were F-15Cs last Saturday. A four ship. Vertical pull-up over the field followed by a rolling turn to the left over the cadet area.
