Here’s what I just received from the Missouri Valley Conference, which is a possible landing spot for Air Force’s non-football teams if the Falcons decide to go that route:
The following is a statement from Commissioner Doug Elgin regarding the Missouri Valley Conference and the college athletic landscape as it relates to expansion.
“Like most NCAA Division I conferences, the Missouri Valley has been closely monitoring the college athletic landscape during the past several months and years. There has been considerable change in alignment of institutions in many conferences, and there has also been much speculation about predicted or potential movement of more institutions.
“To date, the MVC membership has not been impacted by the recent realignment that has been taking place primarily among FBS-conference institutions. The MVC has been remarkably stable, as far as Division I conferences go, since 1996 when we had our last membership change.
“Our Presidents Council has historically been very progressive in membership matters, and I believe they will continue to provide strong leadership in charting the course for our conference. The league staff is doing all that is possible to provide information to the membership that might be used in the event the conference must take decisive action.
“Many institutions in conferences all across the country are gathering information, as well, as they review and analyze their current conference membership. We will continue to keep all such informal inquiries that we might receive from individuals outside our membership confidential.”
