While Air Force isn’t proclaiming quarterback Tim Jefferson ready to go, even though all signs point to him starting at Army, the Black Knights’ quarterback situation seems to be legitimately unsettled.
Army’s Trent Steelman missed last week’s game with a left ankle injury, breaking a streak of 32 consecutive starts. Senior Max Jenkins made the start.
Army coach Rich Ellerson said Steelman’s situation is up in the air this week.
“We don’t know,” Ellerson said. “He is further along than I thought he’d be.”
Ellerson said a determination will be made on Steelman’s status on Wednesday. Ellerson said Steelman has told him he can play – but Ellerson said Steelman told him the same thing last week. The Times Herald-Record has reported it is a high ankle sprain, which is usually more than a one-week injury. So while it appears he won’t play, it hasn’t been ruled out.
“He desperately wants to play,” Ellerson said. “We have to be smart so we don’t set him back.”
