“Stadium Journey” rates Falcon Stadium and Cadet Ice Arena

December 16th, 2011, 2:04 pm · 11 Comments · posted by

The site Stadiumjourney.com certainly has visited (and rated) a lot of venues. You can get lost for a long time on that site, which has visited just about everything, from European soccer stadiums to minor league hockey arenas.

They took in games at Falcon Stadium and Cadet Ice Arena, and click on the links to see their reviews. The Air Force venues get above average marks, which I think is fair. Feel free to agree or disagree with their reviews in the comments below.

“The best band performance I’ve ever seen in real life”? I love the D&B Corps as much as the next fan, but they are not that great on a national stage (although maybe they receive marks for “most improved” in the past couple years). This guy really needs to get out and see more bands play.

“They play in tune”? only sometimes. Luckily, Section 8 is usually cheering or singing loud enough that you can easily ignore the intonation issues.

No mention of the fly overs or Wings of Blue?

Unfortunately they are right about the subdued fan base. The asymmetric nature of the stadium doesn’ t help.

The D and B is easily the worst band in all of college football. the 2010 show with electric violins was a horrible, horrible joke. the food from outside concessions are not bad, but the athletic dept owned (built ins, and non profit group run) are gross. AF Needs to start selling beer, it would help get the crowd going a little bit, which the stadium design does nothing to help, the better stadiums are tiered, not bowl design. plus the fans are so far away from the action, there is a 15 yard buffer surrounding the playing field.

The problem with air force ball is true it is to much of a family environment and being rowdy loud and obnoxious is discouraging. I have actually seen people been escorted out the are for being loud and obnoxious and just cheering and having fun. They were not cursing and the people behind them weren’t complaining. It was the ushers who were getting mad and making them move. The family environment is awesome and its a great place to have kids and introduce them to football but it sucks that the crowd is usually quiet and quite aloof of the game. Yet i will still go to every home game and always love falcons football. Go Air Force!!! Beat the Rockets!!!

There are some issues with this review. She went to a hockey game the same weekend as Air Force Army. That totally changes the experience of Air Force Hockey. She needs to go win its truly Air Force hockey playing and nothing else. Army weekend is a totally different experience. She was upset about not being able to take her knapsack into the game. Get over it that happens a lot of different places and your on a military base. Her complaint about thee fans was wrong. It was early on in the season. Go later December or later. 100% packed every weekend intimate affair and they love there team. They are not obnoxious and they are nice. The only problem is the new seats in the north and south end zone do not help they take away from the overall experience They make it less intimate. Some of the best fans were the ones who stood over the north end zone by the cadet section. Also its really warm because the arena shares it with Clune and the track and its incredibly hard to cool the place. it should be colder and the ice should be harder. Its incredibly different to skate on the ice which probably gives us an advantage. Yet i love Air Force Hockey its an amazing time.

This is unreal…the ratings for football stadiums are being downgraded because of the lack of “drunk and rowdy fans”, and “bluefan” wants AF to start selling beer because it would “get the crowd going a bit”!!!!
This is so unbelievable…seems nowadays we have to consume large amounts of alcohol in order to attend any event…look what THAT’S done for NFL games (e.g., 49ers vs. Raiders preseason game). USAFA places no restrictions on pre-game tailgates, so drink all you want in the parking lot.
As compared to civilian universities, very few alums from AF live in the immediate area of USAFA, especially the younger alums who would tend to be “loud and noisy” because they have all gone off to serve their country at some distant assignment. I have attended many football games at one of our MWC opponents, and it is downright dangerous to go there at night.
If the option is to have the “laid back” atmosphere we have today at Falcon Stadium, or endure the “wild west” at so many other sports venures, I’ll take “laid back” any day. At least I’ve never been robbed in the parking lot there like I did at another school.

  • Brewer says:

Please tell us where it is “downright dangerous.”. No sense in protecting a school that cannot protect it’s paying customers. I love the AFA atmosphere and will never go to a CU game again for the reasons you described above.

  • Falconman says:

University Stadium, University of New Mexico, Albuquerque

  • Falcon says:

Air Force football is the best value in college sports. The flybys, parachuting, D&B, cadet march on, falcon show at halftime and quality of football on the field make it an experience that is unmatched anywhere.
