Air Force is close to 10,000 tickets sold for the Military Bowl on Dec. 28, a good number considering the Falcons figure on another surge once they get to Washington, D.C.
An Air Force spokesman said the school has officially sold a little more than 9,800 tickets so far. Considering the Falcons have a good chance to surpass the 12,000 tickets they sold last year, there’s a reason the Military Bowl paid a hefty sum to make sure the Falcons landed in its game.
The latest spike in sales brought another message from coach Troy Calhoun hoping Air Force breaks its bowl ticket sales record (we’ll give him a pass for jumping the gun on the 10,000 sold figure):
To the Great Supporters and Graduates of the Air Force Academy,
We are only 9 days from kickoff, and we have sold 10,000 tickets, but let’s go after our goal of 12,500 which would be an all time Air Force Academy record. So let’s purchase tickets and make sure we have RFK Stadium full of Falcons pulling for America’s future leaders. Thanks for your help and always — Go Air Force!

Almost 4000 tickets sold in four days since the last Gazette update on 12/15/11! Wow! That is truly amazing! How did that happen?!?!?! Perhaps Coach could make this plea every week during a home game at Falcon Stadium and we might play before a full house every home game except for the one game a year when we play Navy or Army.
I bought 8 plus 2 for donation. Come on Falcon Fans, lets break the record.
Toledo is only at 1,200. Talk about sad…
After attending four straight bowl games with the Falcons, can’t make the trek to DC, so I bought 10 donated tickets. I hope some deserving military member gets to take his/her family to the game for free, on me.
We already have a bowl-watching party planned for Dec. 28.
Go Falcons!
Interesting. How about some real journalism and a report on how many tickets the school is REQUIRED by the bowl to buy if the fans don’t step up. Most bowls make a bid contingent on a minimum number of tickets sold, with the schools picking up the (often hefty) tab for the rest.

Some “real journalism,” huh? I see …
Well, sure. Anyone can just re-post a press release and call it news. but it takes real talent to do some investigative journalism and get to the REAL story behind all the PR and feel-good stuff.
We’re still waiting. How many tickets was Air Force “required” to buy? And what is the penalty if they don’t make that number?
It’s great to see that Air Force fans have already bought 10,000 tickets. I hope they make 12,500. That’s a great showing for the Military Bowl and Air Force. Joe can take his lump of coal and have a Merry Christmas. Thanks for the article. Go Falcons–Beat Toledo!
