Guard Michael Lyons is definitely out of Air Force’s game on Tuesday against Johnson & Wales, and center Taylor Broekhuis might be out as well, coach Jeff Reynolds said.
Lyons has a high ankle sprain and will miss his third straight game. Broekhuis has a sprained foot that affected him in the Falcons’ last game. Reynolds said Broekhuis hasn’t practiced the past two days, although he did some shooting drills today. Reynolds said Broekhuis will be a game-time decision.
“We’d like to get him back and in the flow as soon as we can,” Reynolds said.
Freshman Colt Barnhill will start if Broekhuis sits, Reynolds said.
Lyons is now dealing with some Achilles tendon tightness and soreness, which can happen after the foot has been immobilized due to a high ankle sprain. Reynolds said there is no set timetable for Lyons’ return, and that Air Force will continue to take it day by day with his recovery, but it’s possible he could miss a couple more weeks at least.
“He’s on course, but he’s not close to being back,” Reynolds said.
Although Shawn Hempsey started Air Force’s last game in Lyons’ place, that was based on matchups, Reynolds said, and he hasn’t decided who will start Tuesday. Hempsey, Chris Carter or Kamryn Williams could start against Johnson & Wales.
