Michael Lyons will make the trip to Boise State with Air Force, but that doesn’t mean he’ll play this Saturday.
Lyons has a high ankle sprain and although he was optimistic he could play this weekend, Air Force coach Jeff Reynolds said he is 50-50 at best to play, which he has said all week. Lyons will travel because the Falcons don’t want him to miss any rehabilitation time with the basketball training staff.
Lyons also said if he doesn’t play against Boise State he wants to return next week against Wyoming, but that’s no sure thing.
“Our doctors haven’t given me that answer,” Reynolds said. “They just say he’s making progress.”
Lyons has started running at full speed, and the coaches have been able to joke with him about it.
“(Associate head coach Dave) Pilipovich yelled at Mike and said he hasn’t run that hard since (basic training),” Reynolds said.
Lyons is Air Force’s leading scorer and the Falcons could use him in conference games, but they can’t do much but wait for him to be ready.
“He’s back running and jumping a bit, shooting some shots, so he’s getting closer,” Reynolds said.
