There were two mannequins set up at Wednesday night’s Touchdowns and Tiaras event at the Holaday Athletic Center modeling what appears to be Air Force’s uniforms for this season – a spokesman indicated Air Force will be sporting this look. Some takeaways – the blue jerseys that were displayed are a huge departure from what was worn last year – if this is indeed the regular uniform – the helmet stripe appears to be back (I’ve always been surprised what a hot button topic the removal of the stripe down the middle of the helmet is among Air Force fans), and the gray jerseys Air Force wore as an alternate last year could be part of the rotation this season (and with gray pants – last year they wore blue pants with that jersey), a spokesman said.
Also, coach Troy Calhoun has hinted the team will unveil a special look for the Navy game in October, which has been the case the past couple seasons.
Here’s pictures of the uniforms that were on display at tonight’s event – I’ll double check in the next few days to try and confirm if these are the actual 2012 uniforms (UPDATE: Yes, it’s confirmed, these will be the Air Force primary uniforms this season. They’ll have white, blue and gray pants they can match in different combinations with the jerseys, and the two different helmets shown here. The helmet stripe is just the one down the middle, not the three-stripe look from the past):
[...] Air Force: How can you not like the Service Academy jerseys? There are also rumors of a special jersey for the Navy game. (http://gazetteafasports.freedomblogging.com/2012/08/02/a-sneak-peek-at-air-forces-2012-uniforms-incl…) [...]
what is the reason for the words on the back of the jerseys? (service and freedom)
Just came back from seeing the Michigan game and the gray uniforms. My 32 year old daughter’s first comment upon seeing the Falcons take the field was, “why are they wearing those dingy uniforms?” Others around us, both AFA and Michigan rooters, seemed to share the same sentiment. While I’m all for the importance of heritage and honoring our history (if indeed that is the reason behind the gray) there’s also something to be said for preserving the traditions of Falcon football, one of which is the white uniforms. I, for one, would much prefer that the legacy of the white uniforms be preserved. I’ll bet those 105 drivers who played on the football team would too….
What does the letter and number before the players name on the back of the football jersey mean? This is interesting.
AF Academy vs Naval Academy on October 6, 2012.
Calhoun and the entire staff at USAFA should be terminated for allowing the black uniforms in the game today. Black is not an approved USAF color!
Why the BLACK UNIFORMS for the Navy game today? Calhoun and all should be fired for that! Just to whom are they bowing down? Black
is not an authorized, approved, proper USAF color for anything worn.
It appears that the muslim brotherhood is now within the USAF Academy.
How can I buy one of those jerseys
I get it if you don’t like the grey uniforms but the black “stealth” uniforms are clearly inspired by the black paint on the Air Force’s first stealth warplanes, the B-2 and F-117. I have also heard that there is influence on the uniforms from the F-22. Really folks? Firing the USAFA leadership over a football uniform? Where in heaven’s name is your logic there? It’s not like the USAFA football uniform is a service dress or ABU. BTW Black is always approved for accessories to ACTUAL USAF uniforms if you want to start getting technical, so GET OVER IT!
Hey Joshua: B-2, F-117 and F-22 you! Topic of cite was football uniforms. Nothing to do with anything else, especially ‘ACTUAL USAF’ uniforms. Pull your head out, take a deep breath, grow a spine, and KISS – pay attention to the factual topic. There’s a bus leaving somewheres close to you; GET UNDER IT!
