I know; it’s almost always beautiful in San Diego. But forecast had been for rainy day.
The Falcons are 71/2 point underdogs, but this Air Force team plays at its best when the odds are against it.
SDSU is on a five-game winning streak, but barely defeated Nevada and Boise State. There’s reason for the Falcons to be optimistic.
And reason for the Falcons to be worried. SDSU clobbered Army, 42-7, earlier this season while stifling the Black Knights rushing attack.
I hope AFA bounces back with a much improved performance in comparison to last week’s effort against Army.
I’d like to see the Falcons win, but in all candor, I am expecting a San Diego State victory. A sixth win would be nice, but that may need to wait until next week’s game with Hawaii. It’s game time. Good luck Falcons!
We look much better today. Even with all the guys out with injuries and getting that way.
Defense stopped SDS on its first two possessions. On AFA’s first possession the offense was forced to settle for a field goal. After AFA’s defense again stopped SDS, Connor Dietz through an ill-advised interception on AFA’s first play negating the defense’s stout effort.
The offense hasn’t been able to convert third and fourth downs “in the clutch.” The defense has kept AFA in the game, but the AFA offense hasn’t responded when given an opportunity. Without a TD to start the second half I don’t like AFA’s chances at all.
Go Falcons.
San Diego is a much better team than we are…..period.
We are beating ourselves but SDSU is a really good team.
They can beat a lot of good schools.
We need to get back to 6600 ft above sea level.
We need cold and tough conditions.
These kids and coaches won’t quit.
They are a fine football team and they showed some class today.
Agreed third and long.
I tip my hat to poster East Coast Falcon. All season he’s been a voice of reason rather than blind optimism in predicting that Air Force would be beaten handily by several teams. He was on target with his prediction that SDS would beat the falcons by double digits.
Go get hawaii on Friday boys so you can become bowl eligible.
Well we’ll beat a terrible Hawaii team and play some other crap 6-6 team from a Non-BCS conference is a Bowl Game. Whoop whoop!
One good win this season – over Nevada. Otherwise we only beat awful awful teams. Will be nice when Boise State and SDSU leave the Mtn West, and we’ll actually be able to win the soon-to-be worst conference in D-I football.
joeC
may not be a big deal to you but I bet those AF kids would be thankful to get a bowl game at 6 – 6.
There are a LOT of D1 programs that would love the chance to get to go to a bowl.
While a bowl game is possible, now is the time for Calhoun to prepare for next season. Dietz, and I have respect for him, is not TimJefferson. We can appreciate now how valuable Tim’s 4 years were. Much more disciplined team with a real passing game. Now we need to look to all those young QB’s to see who is our next leader. Hawaii is the perfect game for the baptismal. And I keep seeing some good young talent show up on a few plays. Turn them loose.
It does appear that Calhoun has had some success recruiting in the past few years. If so, being a first class an and future AF leader does not mean a starting job on the field.
Oh, and that was the best defensive performance this year. There is a brighter future out there, but not this year.
Connor Dietz’s less then stellar day shows the importance of the quarterback. This was another game, now two in a row, that was difficult to watch knowing how good the triple option offense can be when things are clicking and the quarterback can throw the ball although this wasn’t evident in Dietz’s passing game. This was a game which would have given the Falcons a chance to share the MTW title and they were not up to the task. I’m just wondering if the tean isn’t worn out at this point with the lack of size and demands of the Academy.
Difficult to watch….very difficult to watch. I like watching good football….not happening.
This Friday night I can watch Air Force Football play Hawaii OR Colorado College play Denver in Hockey, Ummm I’m thinking CC-DU without a second of hesitation.
Anyone who enjoys big time sports in Colorado Springs will be at The World Arena. If anyone is going to be at the football game, it’s just because you have never tried to experience a CC-DU hockey game or your a cadet and you have to be there. You all have fun, or at least try to.
I’m telling you, the CC-DU hockey game….there is nothing better. Nothing.
So it’s on to the Hawaii game and with it AFA’s last realistic opportunity to get a sixth win and become bowl-qualified.
Hawaii will enter the game with a 1-8 record having lost its last seven games. In that stretch hawaii has surrendered a total of 339 points or an average of 48.4 points per game. Nevada 49; BYU 47, San Diego State 52, New Mexico 35, CSU 42, Fresno 45 and Boise Sate 49.
In the fgour road games in that stretch Hawaii has allowed 46.5 points per game [BYU, SDS, CSU,Fresno].
With the titanic struggles Air Force has had on offnese the past two weeks, perhaps, the chance to play Hawaii is what the Falcons need to help them out of the doldrums.
Personally, I hope Kale Pearson is given a higher number of reps in practice this week along with the chance to play a significant portion of the game on Friday. Yes, I know it’s Senior Night and Connor Dietz shouls be given the start, but Troy Calhoun and his staff need to begin to prepare for the 2013 season by giving Pearson some meaningful game experience in whatever portion of the current season remains to be played.
Go Air Force! Beat Hawaii!
JOEC
Please go to the hockey game.
Please don’t come back to an AF game.
I am sure you are a fun loving guy who likes to have fun.
Please have fun!
B1 – I am both an AF Football and CC Hockey season ticket holder (as are many sports fans in Colorado Springs). I’ll be at the CC vs Denver game. Not even a question of which is the bigger and better game to attend on Friday, November 16th. And on another note, the Friday night college football games are terrible and should be outlawed. See you at the World Arena. Go Falcons and Go Tigers beat DU!
BLUE
That is fantastic. But I don’t see anything on this sports section blog talking about hockey. This is about football. I enjoy hockey as well. But, I would be in a venue for hockey talking about hockey, or golf talking about golf.
Not stating about where I would want to be because of who AF is playing or how the season is going.
I do understand where you are coming from. You were not unloading your agenda on this blog.
Re the Falcons football program: Trends. We are still seeing the same problematic trends with this team that we’ve seen over the last 3-4 years. As for hockey, while I’m thrilled to hear about the enthusiasm for a second-tier college (and zero-tier professional) sport, since it doesn’t involve Air Force, it really doesn’t belong here. But I hope you hockey people enjoy the game.
The CC vs. DU game is the top event in Colorado Springs, bar none. Not second tier here.
I’m not sure why AF fans continue to take the bait with this CC hockey talk. Really? When I see CC hockey on national TV outside of frozen 4, I’ll begin to care.
When I see Air Force Football join a BCS conference or play in front of 50,000+ people . . . I’ll begin the care.
College Hockey is not a national sport, but in Denver and Colorado Springs – DU and CC Hockey outdraw even the basketball programs in the State. Everyone is talking about the CC-DU games this weekend, NO ONE is talking about AF-Hawaii.
College Football is the #1 sport in America without a doubt, but no one gives a rats ass about the Mountain West or Air Force football on a national level either. That’s why you’re playing on Friday night for college football…to try and get someone to care LOL. Can’t wait for Boise and San Diego State to leave, the Mountain West is a JOKE. And news flash, the only people who care about the CIC Trophy is those that have graduated from AF, Navy or Army. No one else cares.
Looking forward to going to AF game Friday. I’ll look for the CC highlights on esp.. sorry, channel 5. Love the infiltrators & haters. Especially enjoy watching AF athletes compete knowing they will serve their country and not an NFL owner. To anyone who doesn’t like it, you can kiss my A**!
I’ll say it again, most people in Colorado Springs support CC Hockey and AF Football. Why the jealousy?
The CC vs Denver game is a bigger event than AF vs Hawaii. I’m a season ticket holder for both, but I’m man enough to admit the truth.
Most residents from Colorado Springs will be at the CC vs Denver game
Go Tigers and Go Falcons….but if you’re not at the Colorado College – Denver game Friday night you’re not a real sports fan…..Have fun at 75% empty Falcon Football Stadium. I myself will be at the packed and sold out World Arena watching a great sporting event with elite teams and elite talent, not to mention one of the best atmosphere games in all of sports, not just in the State of Colorado.
When is the last time you elite talent won you an NCAA championship? Why am I sure that if asked, 9.5 out of ten people outside of Colorado have no idea you exist? I don’t dislike CC but get real. I’ve been to mullet town (World Arena) on hockey night and really? Good luck Tigers! You can keep your dirty little secret.
Hot girls huh? Are you 12? Go to bed! The next time you wear that Jersey out of state I bet your asked when Missouri got a hockey team. Looking forward to the Falcons becoming bowl eligible! Go Tigers!
Mullet town???
No way have you been to a CC hockey game.
I guess it might look like mullets compared to high and tight.
And the women who go to CC games are way way hotter than those that go to AF games. And they dress to impress. Have fun freezin Friday night at Falcon Stadium. World Arena will be warm inside and rockin…in so many ways you will obviously never understand
Okay, so what we’ve learned so far in this thread is that the key to the Air Force-Hawaii game on Friday night is the location of your tickets for the CC-DU hockey game.
Carry on.
What we’ve really learned is that the Air Force Football season has been a disappointment and Colorado College Hockey has not only started, but this Friday night is the CC-DU game at the world arena. Most everyone in Colorado Springs (not Chicago or East Coast, etc) is now interested in CC Hockey rather than AF football. Sad to say, but that’s a fact.
All of you NHL superstar want to be’s please go to the hockey game and act like you played the game before. Act like you have ever dressed out in any uniform before. Please take it to a hockey blog. That is where your comments belong, not here.
It is easy to be a computer bad boy behind a screen. Takes 0 guts to criticize something or someone. I know you would not do it face to face with anyone from the air force football program in person.
Go AF!
The small, yet aggressive fan base for CC hockey is impressive! Hopefully, the “Mullets” get a blog soon. Looking forward to tailgating and watching what should be an AF win! I hope CC’s “elite” talented group actually win something this year. Maybe then, they will get their own blog.
The AF Football players are shrimps, I’m not scared. The CC Hockey players hit harder.
CC has won more championships than AF. Conference and National.
And not one tax dollar goes to support CC.
Scott
It is past your bedtime. You need to go to bed.
You are a legend in your own mind.
CC Hockey 6 Air Force 2 Final
59-5-2 all time in favor of CC
Just in case you forgot
I was at home sleeping. Getting rest for AF and New Mexico the following day. Did you miss curfew Scotty?
I guess the B1 Bomber and Ebo are one in the same. FIgures
Scotty, your mother is calling you.
Great joke from an Air Force grad I’m sure – “L”
So tomorrow night sports fan will learn if Hawaii’s running game can contain CC’s power play; if AFA’s pass rush can disrupt DU’s breakout patterns from its defensive zone; if CC’s defensemen can thwart Ty MacArthur’s break-away speed on punt returns; if DU’s perpetually atrocious kicking game will give AFA advantageous field position; if Hawaii can win crucial defensive zone faceoffs while trying to kill penalties; if any of these teams has a lefty outta the bullpen who can throw strikes.
For answers to these and many more intriuging questions, tune in tomorrow night…same BAT-time…same BAT-station.
BIg game tomorrow night…..
Bowl bid on the line….these seniors deserve it….
sure hope they can take care of business….
I can’t believe we lost to Army, and bad.
We don’t deserve a bowl, but neither does any 6-6 team. Too many bowls now a days. And the Mountain West is weak this season.
Blue, agreed. Bowl games are way plentiful and this year’s team is not necessarily bowl worthy. It is what is though and would look forward to underclassmen gaining the experience. I love bowl season and toon in because there’s nothing else on. Certainly not hockey …
All those kids at AF would love to be in a bowl, 6-6, it does not matter.
We just need to get the game tonight and see what happens next week.
